The Rwandeire Committee looks to be digging deeper into Makerere issues daily. Last week, some of its members met with the students’ fraternity from where MUASA leaders were accused of inciting the students to strike late October last year.
Dr. Muhammad Kiggundu, the MUASA chairman, was accused of paying the students to strike.
“I have evidence that Dr Muhammad Kiggundu bribed students to join their strike, something that sparked off violence,” said Roy Ssemboga, the Makerere guild president.
To this accusation, the MUASA spokes person Dr Deus Muhwezi responded saying it’s very embarrassing for the students to say that they were paid to join the strike.
“The first time when we went on strike, they asked us to help them suspend our strike and we did, but the second time of course they failed. It is very embarrassing for them to say that we incited some students to join our strike,” Dr Kamunyu said.
The students went ahead to ask for punitive measures to be taken against VC Prof Ddumba Ssentamu for misusing the institution’s funds. In relation to this, an allegation was made against him for failing to lease part of the institution’s land in Kabanyolo, Wakiso district, where the investor wanted to plant trees and then pay the university Shs 2billion per six months.
But for his part, the economics professor rubbished the allegation.
“I’m very happy a special audit has been sanctioned at Makerere. Let them come up with a special audit and we shall see the outcome of that audit; whether I’m the one taking the money or there is a problem at Makerere,” said Prof Ddumba.
The students further requested the committee to investigate their welfare and also recommend a punitive action for lecturers who regularly chop classes but shamelessly strike demanding for salaries. They also advised the university management to be creative and look for other ways of generating funds other than relying on tuition.
The probe committee chairperson assured students that a comprehnsive report will soon be out. “We are not going to leave any stone unturned. If we find that there are those who ‘ate’ the money, they will surely bring it back,” Rwendeire promised.

Over 5,000 MUBS students were to graduate in January but didn’t because of Main campus’ closure. Their graduation is still being crippled by the School management that hasn’t remitted functional fees amounting to Shs4 billion for the past 3 years.
Important to note is that each East African student at MUBS is supposed to pay Shs 420,000 and 1,027,500 for international students. However, out of the Shs6 billion collected, MUBS only paid Shs1.4 billion.
Augustine Tamale the MUK Bursar wrote a letter to the MUBS principle Prof Waswa Balunywa on January 9, 2017, reminding him of the school’s failure to clear these dues in the past.
According to Tamale, MUBS students will not graduate if their school management doesn’t forward this money on the Makerere University Council Bank account in time before the late February graduation.

Hell broke loose when city socialite, Anita Fabiola’s father, Mathias Mugisha, landed on a raunchy photo of his second daughter, Grace Ainomugisha aka Graciella.
Ainomugisha’s bikini photo that left her Instagram followers awed at how curvaceous the Fabiolas are, according to pals, didn’t go down well with her dad.
The Mbarara University of Science and Technology student was warned to desist from following in her sister’s footsteps.
“The dad was furious and at the same time disappointed at how much Ainomugisha was attracting horny city hyenas by uploading sizzling photos of herself. He doesn’t want her to end up like the sister [Anita Fabiola] who has since turned bars into lecture rooms,” a close pal to Ainomugisha spoke on condition of anonymity.

The light skin tiny version of the Fabiola sisters is a first-year student at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy.
She has since deleted the photo from her Instagram account and has pledged to curtail her continuous hanging out to concentrate on her degree.
Other pals however insist that Ainomugisha was not drilled. “She just chose to keep her Instagram ‘clean’.”

Kikoni area over the weekend experienced half paralysis as a raid was conducted to bust out a criminal gang according to a tip received by police.
Through this raid, an illegal gun was recovered from a MUK student who has been arrested along with several others at Wandegeya police station.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Emillian Kayima said that the suspects were busted and arrested after a tip.
According to police suspicion, this gang rotates around a chain of students who stayed in the United hostels of Kikoni during the 2 months of MUK’s closure.
The police withheld most of the information leading to the criminal offenses this gang might have committed so as not to distort further investigations.
More students are to be arrested if proved to have had anything to do with this gang.
More details about this developing story to follow soon……
