I am following with interest the unfolding melodrama in Uganda around the oil cash ‘bonus.’ It is regrettable, and increases the apprehension of some about the damage the oil cash will do to our country when actual oil production starts in the country. If people are already asking for colossal bonuses long before the oil taps start flowing, what will happen when we begin actual production? The oil cash ‘bonus’ may fulfil all the legal requirements but fails the moral test, not to speak of the patriotic ideals that are being re-centred in the country.
