Who said that successful and wealthy people don’t need to study? Education is good foundation every parent should at least try to give their children and nothing brings joy to parents like seeing their children graduate with a degree or diploma.
Well, Facebook founder and owner Mark Zuckerberg brought smiles on his parents Edward and Karen Zuckerberg’s faces when he returned to school and got his honorary degree in Law from Harvard University which he dropped out of 13 years ago to concentrate on Facebook and swore never to come back then.
Despite the fact that Zuckerberg who is world’s 5th richest person worth 62.3 billion dollars swore never to return to Harvard, yesterday Thursday the 25th of May, he returned to the university to pick up his degree and he also addressed the other graduates.
“I’m honored to be with you today because, let’s face it, you accomplished something I never could. If I get through this speech, it’ll be the first time I actually finish something at Harvard. Class of 2017, congratulations.” Zuckerberg said
“You’re graduating at a time when this is especially important. When our parents graduated, purpose reliably came from your job, your church, your community. But today, technology and automation are eliminating many jobs. Membership in communities is declining. Many people feel disconnected and depressed, and are trying to fill a void.” He added
Mark Zuckerberg features in a long line of university dropouts who became millionaires after founding technology companies with Bill Gates and the late Steve Jobs being among them. Zuckerberg’s degree comes 13 years later, a little quicker than it took Bill Gates, another famous Harvard University dropout to get his. Gates, who left to found Microsoft in 1975, did not receive his honorary degree until 2007.

The ‘boda boda’ has gone main stream after making it to the latest Oxford Advanced Learner’s dictionary.
The word boda boda may be part of our Ugandan or East African vocabulary but it’s not a word you could define using the dictionary. That has changed. Now when you look it up in the ninth edition of the dictionary or its online equivalent, the boda boda has a definition.
The definition describes the boda boda as: “(in some countries) a type of motorcycle or bicycle with a space for a passenger or for carrying goods, often used as a taxi.” The dictionary even describes it as East African English. The word is yet to make it to the learner’s version of the dictionary but there is no denying that we have arrived!
There has been a lot of online celebration about this milestone for our vocabulary, as would be expected. And true to expectations, some UOT found a way to create humour around this development.
There are those who took the route of thanking Museveni or NRM for every good thing that happens in Uganda.
So where did this boda boda word come from. As people who lived through those times tell us, the word started those days when people smuggled goods into the country. Motorcycles especially were used to smuggle goods, and sometimes people, to and from the borders. Soon the word evolved into boda boda.
What word is next? The Rolex perhaps?
Ivan Semwanga was first pronounced dead on Wednesday but Zari, his ex-wife came out and clarified that he was still alive but on life support. These death rumours came to pass on Thursday morning (25th of May) when Zari herself announced the death of South Africa-based businessman and socialite Ivan Semwanga through a social media post.
Ever since the news broke out, internet has gone wild about this with all sorts of information regarding the matter flying all over the place.

Located at the mall’s rooftop, the spacious Lounge’s grand opening had a red carpet session hosted by Urban TV’s Kabs Haloha at the entrance and later the party that was hosted by Galaxy FM’s Andrew Kyamagero was lit up by performances from artistes namely Cindy, Geosteady, Minah Izah as well as Dj Roja and Slick Stuart
It was a VVIP affair that saw revellers get treated to the best of entertainment and the Lounge’s ambiance. This lounge has a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, Massage Parlour, Health centre and will open on a daily with different theme nights going forward.

Sad news befell the Family, relatives and friends to Rich Gang’s boss Ivan Semwanga who was confirmed dead this morning by his Ex wife Zari Hassan. Close to two weeks ago, the late Ivan was rushed to Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa in a critical condition following a stroke attack and brain complications.
He has been in a critical condition until today morning when he breathed his last, Zari took to social media where she posted a passionate message to the late.
“God loves those that are special and that’s exactly who you were & I guess that’s why he wanted you to himself. You have touched and helped thousands, you did wonders and I remember you telling me “life is too short Zee let me live it to the fullest”, this very dark hour it makes sense why you always said those words to me. To your sons, you were a hero-some kind of superman. Anyone who has ever been in your presence knows what a charming person you were. You will be missed and remembered in so many ways. You were IVAN THE GREAT!.” Zari Wrote on one of her Facebook pages
Together with his Rich Gang members, Ivan was known to host lavish parties every end of year at Club Guvnor where the three would blow money to the revellers which is one of the things the public knew and will remember about him. It’s not that he is a bad artiste or something like that, but there is a way A Pass wants to get attention not through his music but through the use of social media.
A Pass real names Alexander Begonza, earlier yesterday tweeted that he had given all Ugandan artistes time to release biscuit music. Biscuit music meaning that all Ugandan musicians have been doing is bubblegum songs which are not up to standards, excluding himself from the lot.
He didn’t stop at that but went on to say he is the CEO of Ugandan Music who will always be in charge of the music department in Uganda.
Although we are not sure about his stand on the current music scene in Uganda, but one thing we are sure of is that A Pass is no longer that influential compared to two years or so when he had just stormed onto the music scene. By then he had outstanding songs like ‘Wuuyo’, Tulikubigere’, ‘Memories’ and ‘Nva Kampala’ among others. Besides that, he was also one of the top song writers then.
However, this is not the first time he calls for attention through tweets as a couple of weeks back, he said he had gotten a 2million haircut and before that, he had confessed his love for Capital FM’s Flavia Tumusiime. Not forgetting that he bragged of how his tie cost over 2million shillings.Tweet
It looks like Juliana Knyomozi is not the only talented person in her family because her younger sister Laura Kahunde is slowly getting herself a name on the entertainment scene.
She might not be as talented as her big sister but Laura is slowly becoming a force to reckon with on the movie scene otherwise why would a big production in second chance that airs on NTV every Monday and Tuesday have her replace Anita Fabiola.
Anita Fabiola is no longer part of second chance (Ugandan version) and what we received is that Laura has taken up her role to be Angella Byekwaso.
“I’m proud to introduce to you Angella Byekwaso whom I portray on Second chance Uganda. Join us every Monday and Tuesday on NTV and On the NTV second chance page live at 8PM , repeats on Saturday at 4PM,” Laura posted on her Facebook page.
Laura is not knew on the cameras having starred in Mariam Ndagire’s films Hearts in pieces, where we belong and Dear Mum. She was also part of Usama Mukwaya’s Hello movie that even won her the best actress in 2011 MNFPAC students awards.
Besides that, Laura was also a cast in Bullion movie where she acted with her sister Juliana Kanyomozi.Tweet

VJ Junior has started feeling the pressure of being an active politician only that his arrest yesterday was based on other things not related to politics.
Vj Junior real names Marysmats Matovu was yesterday arrested along with his colleague Geoffrey Bbosa under the orders of Father Simon Lokodo, the State Minister for Ethics and Integrity on grounds that they have been producing and circulating pornographic material.
The Video Jockey and his colleague were first detained at Wilson Road Police post before they were taken to the CIID headquarters in Kibuli.
From here, the minister was able to talk to Junior and explain to him why he was arrested and what he wants him to do if he wanted to be released.
“I have evidence beyond reasonable doubt to lock you up for damaging the moral fibre of this country. You are a producer, a trafficker and a distributor of pornographic material which has circulated throughout the country.” Father Lokodo told VJ Junior.
He even requested him to become a State witness, then help Government to locate and apprehend other criminals of that kind who are still at large but Junior denied the allegations and also declined the offer.
The two will be kept behind bars as investigations are carried out before they will be taken to court.
Remember Michelle Obama’s first official portrait as first lady in 2009? The one where she wore a sleeveless black dress that got some conservatives really angry because she was baring her shoulders. That sort of criticism continued throughout her term as first lady, especially among right-wing voters. Most of this criticism carried racist and sexist undertones.
However, for a person whose fashion choices are a reflection of who she is, Michelle kept a deaf ear to the criticism.
Well, ever since the Obamas left office for incumbent Donald Trump, they have been spotted in different holiday destinations. The latest is Tuscany region, Italy where the two are currently having a good time if the photos going around are anything to go by.
All the attention is on Michelle however, who has been seen wearing and rocking attires that expose that body part that caused frenzy in the past. Her well toned shoulders have been on display in almost every photo from their recent holiday.
In one photo, she is wearing a pink top that bares her left shoulder. In another, she spots a white off-shoulder top that screams summer holiday. It looks like the former first lady is celebrating finally being able to bare her shoulders without any criticism. We don’t blame her. We would also show off our shoulders if they looked that well defined.
Check out the photos below

Social media has today been busy with news that South African-based Ugandan businessman and socialite Ivan Ssemwanga has passed on after 11 days on life support but what we have managed to get is that, he is still alive but in a critical condition.
Well, according to his ex-wife Zari Hassan, Ivan is alive but still on life support although she was the first one the doctors called when the situation had worsened at 6am.
“Ivan isn’t dead. He is still on life support”, she said.

Many have known and watched the James Bond movies since time memorial and one Character who portrayed the British spy agent so perfectly well was Sir Roger Moore. The Actor, best known for playing James Bond, died yesterday aged 89, his family has announced.
He played the famous spy in seven Bond films including Live and Let Die and A View to a Kill. He also featured in TV series The Persuaders and The Saint besides being a UNICEF Ambassador.
According to media reports, Sir Roger’s family confirmed the news on Twitter, saying he had died after “a short but brave battle with cancer”.
“Thank you Pops for being you, and being so very special to so many people.”
“With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today (Yesterday). We are all devastated,” They said in a Twitter post.
The actor took the character of James Bond in a more humorous direction than his predecessor Sean Connery which was calm and suave – a smooth operator who could seemingly get himself out of a tricky situation with ease that won him a huge following and fan base across the globe..
The veteran star, who died in Switzerland, will have a private funeral in Monaco in accordance with his wishes, his children said.
“The love with which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone,” read the statement from Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian.Tweet
If you are human, you have to fall sick at some point but for artistes, sickness comes either when they are worn out or because of pressure to do with an upcoming concert and so on.
It is believed Gravity Omutujju fell sick due to the latter after he was rushed to hospital from Mbale where he had gone for a performance over the weekend. He had travelled as one of the headlining acts at Douglas Lwanga’s Purple Party.
The musician as we report this has undergone several drips because of dehydration and malaria if what we heard is anything to go by.
This is the first time Gravity real names Wabuyi Geresome has been admitted which has worried not only his wife but his fans as well because it is serious.
Gravity is busy pushing his show that is soon coming up at Lugogo cricket Oval, but the immense pressure he is having might have stressed him and increased on the sickness because the venue is triple the size where he had his previous shows.
(Young film maker and artist aims at the global audience through his upcoming film production in June,)
Celebrated Ugandan author and film maker Jerry Sesanga is working on his upcoming film project that he says is going to be a game changer for the Ugandan film industry. Through his filming company ULLYWOOD, he seeks to tell a Ugandan story at a global scale. He says that he believes Ugandan films can have a global impact and he feels he is in position to bring something new on market that can go around the world.
“When Hollywood comes to Africa, often times we see a stereo typed story that misrepresent s many facts about us, so I feel if we tell our own stories, we can create a difference. Under ULLYWOOD, I feel we can give quality to Ugandan cinema and a new direction for our industry. I have a vision that in years to come, films from Uganda will be called films from ULLYWOOD.” He explains.
The Runaway Bride is about a young couple’s fight for their love after an old tycoon makes an indecent proposal to a campus girl. With the help of her boyfriend, they run away from the pursuit of a determined police detective. It is a story of struggle and love told uniquely like never before in Ugandan cinema.
“Uganda is one of the countries with the youngest populations in the world and therefore as I produce films, I want films that not only appeal to foreign audiences, but as well to the young audiences in the country. In literature we say a poem is a poem when it sings, when it screams, when it jumps, when it dances, when it feels. So I want to do a film like a poem, a film with senses.” He adds.
Jerry Sesanga is working with celebrated Ugandan musician Naava Grey on the lyrics for the soundtrack of the film. “As an artist, I admire other artistic works, music is one of them, it goes straight to my heart and it inspires my work. I am in love with Naava Grey’s music and working with her is really exciting.” Sesanga comments with a beaming smile.
The film is set to be shot in June and is expected to come out in August. It will be premiered at Century Cinemax at Acacia Mall and Sesanga hopes to keep us updated on the progress on the film to confirm the due dates. He is grateful to his partners and sponsors who include Plan International Uganda of which he is a goodwill ambassador: chano8 Magazine, MixaTeens and their parent company Sms One.
Jerry Sesanga also premiered his short film ‘The Baby Bride’at the recently concluded ‘Parliamentary Conference on Tackling Teenage Pregnancy in Uganda’ organised by Plan Uganda, at Kampala Serena Hotel. The film received massive reviews and feed back as it tackled a very sensitive topic of child pregnancy.Tweet

If the exposure Latinum is starting to get is anything to go by, then he is destined for greater things. First of all, because he is really a talented artiste and secondly, because the crowd has started noticing him.
Well, his new management Gifted Music Group (GMG) has found it wise to engage the public in his projects by staking one million shillings to the best dancer of his latest song ‘Man away’ which is already receiving airplay.
“One person will be walking away with one million shillings. This will be after a dance challenge of Latinum’s new song titled ‘Man Away’. We will be choosing the winner in a week’s time so better start sending in those videos.” They posted on social media.
The song was released over the weekend and it is the first project the youngster has kicked off with GMG.
Latinum is an upcoming dancehall musician behind songs like ‘Zimenya’, ‘Baabo’ and ‘Amanya Gange’ among others and recently signed a management contract with GMG which he expects will take him to the next level.
This move was started by Bebe Cool and Sauti Sol who came up with the idea of a video dance challenge for their song ‘Mbozi Za Malwa’ although it never yielded any fruits because no winner has till now been rewarded nor officially announced.

As US president HE Donald Trump continues his first foreign tour, yesterday the 22nd of May alongside his wife and first lady Melania Trump, they arrived in Tel Aviv, Israel from Saudi Arabia where he was three days ago and were welcomed by Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife.
However, as they walked off Air Force One on a red carpet, it was noticed that president Trump was walking a step ahead of Melania and when he tried to reach his hand back in what appeared like an attempt to hold the first lady’s hand, something strange happened. To his disappointment, she slapped away the hand of the most powerful man in the world which did not go unnoticed as some cameras caught the incidence.
Since then social media is on fire with the video of this short incidence which could be a justification that, the couple’s relationship is not on the same page although that will be subject of discussion for another day.
Melania who chose to live in New York with son Barron Trump rather than join her husband in the White House has been a topic of scrutiny during Trump’s time in office, with many questioning their relationship status.

The VIVO Energy-sponsored Tokosa 2017 edition was excited as the previous editions especially to food enthusiasts who congregated on Saturday at Legends grounds to witness once again the magic hands cooking some awesome nerve-wrecking delicacies and learning in the process as well.
The event lived up to its hyper-billing and pre-event hype as the day’s special guest chefs demonstrated some useful skills for the revellers who followed the proceedings keenly while salivating to the sweet aromas that emanated from the cooking pans.
This was headlined by none other than headlining supreme chef line up of Chef Mehmet Demiroğulları of Sheraton Hotel, Kampala Food Network’s Kavitha Serunkuma and Chef Hannat from the Food Library. They showed some exciting cuisines and demonstrated the power of simplicity while coming up with tasty meals in just minutes especially while using the magical amazing pan by Kampala Food Network.
Chef Mehmet excited the guests with his coking antics at the cooking table as he did his thing. He made a signature meal dubbed ‘The Mehmet Beef wrap’ which is his original cuisine creation and the revellers who had a bite all, agreed it was tasty and a new exciting culinary feeling.
Other exciting activities at the annual event now in its third edition included, the Couple’s cook-up challenge where NTV’s Brian Mulondo and wife Bianca just took the whole fun bit of the exercise to the next level as they got crazy with their hilarious moves while cooking. They danced, drank and ate while cooking ‘lunch’ for the family. Brian in particular instead of cooking was more of a cheer leader as he munched the food and crunched carrots.
Other cook-up challenges saw Fathers face off in a Dad’s cook up challenge while the Singles like Urban Tv’s Denzel also cooked ‘dinner’ for their visiting girlfriends. Children had lots of fun in the DSTV Sponsored tent with games and cartoons showing on large screens and entertainment from Lydia Jasmine as well as Mairice Kirya and the Zumba Ladies.
