Balaam Going Back To School?

Mon, 01/30/2017 - 16:16

Balaam is a name commonly associated with his huge success as an event promoter in Uganda. He had immersed a huge chunk of wealth but I guess that is not enough when you are Mr Barugahare. Close friends have informed us the tycoon is ready to take a leave of absence and return to school.
He is not going to just any school. No! He is said to have gotten a spot in Harvard business school. I think the question on everyone’s mind is who will be running all his events? Who will step into his shoes? Those are some pretty huge shoes to fill!

A lot of things happened there like thrilling music performances, and how traditional healers showered him with millions of money among others. One other thing was when Team No Sleep’s Sheebah Karungi stepped on stage and the crowd was thrown into frenzy.

Band Aroma On ‘Safari’ To The Top

Sun, 01/29/2017 - 08:00

In an era where live music is coming back to life, there is a lot going on behind the scenes with players working around the clock to tickle the nerves of music consumers and bring the real appreciation back into the night life. This whole live band revolution started way back in the early 2000 when some sections of music consumers started complaining of being cheated by main stream artistes who preferred to mime or sing along their own songs during music shows and concerts.

Some people felt cheated and when the ‘war was taken to the media; some big name artistes felt challenged and obliged. The likes of Bebe Cool with his Gagamel crew started doing live music (at Amnesia and other places) and also at concerts. Soon other artistes followed suit and now almost everyone else is performing live.

While all this was going on, the likes of the legendary Afrigo Band stood their ground and remained consistent as they inspired other young live music enthusiasts and artistes to pick up the mantle. And the likes of Janzi Band, Lilian Mbabazi’s The Sundowners and Agella Kalule’s Angie Band were bor.

However one such young group of artistes who have been consistently on the rise but not so much in the lime light, is a group of talented and focused processionals who call themselves the Band Aroma.Band Aroma which was founded by Nathan Tumuhaise in 2011 has been working hard for acceptance and appreciation in and around Kampala especially in the early stages after formation. However, the breakthrough came during the Olive Awards in 2012 where it was hired to be the host band for the award ceremony.

Nathan Tumuhaise the founder of Band Aroma.

After that, the band got recognized and was invited to different African states like Nigeria & Kenya. The fan base grew bigger as the band made all these tours successfully. Last year goes down as a memorable year for them after featuring in several concerts and events on special invitation as well as performing in weekly theme nights in hotels restaurants like Cayenne, Piato, Kampala Serena Hotel among others. Currently their home is at Gatto Matto where they play every Friday in Bugolobi. But most notable is that, besides the covers they play, they also have their own original compositions and an album called SAFARI which they are officially releasing soon.

The founder members of the band.

The 9-piece band has, Mercy Bero (Vocalist), Roy Kasika (drummer), Josh Mutebi (bass guitar),John Inyanga (Electric & effects), Solomon Kalungi (Vocalist), Isaac Senyonjo (Keys),Julius Ssese (Vocalist), Musa Milandu(Vocalist), Enock Mude (Acoustics & guitars)

The band is now working on a trip to the USA where it has been invited to perform their current album Safari. The band is also launching its lead singers this year as solo artists and we expect a lot from them.

The band performing during the Olive Gospel Music Awards

SAFARI THE ALBUM

The band’s maiden album to be officially released soon is titled SAFARI and according to the founder Nathan Tumuhaise, it summarises the message in the album.”The theme and message in the album revolves around the title ‘Safari’ which is Kiswahili for Journey”. He told Chano8 in an exclusive chat.

The 9-track album which is mostly Afro-Jazz with Afro soul elements mostly is about the group’s musical journey so far and has some inspirational messages embedded in some of the gospel songs like ‘Hold My Hands,’ and ‘Worship Medley’ that spice up the love ballads.

The songs which were produced by Roy Kasika at Limix Studio also include ‘Beautiful’, ‘Broken Heart’, ‘Lulluby’, ’Safari’, ‘Selflessly’, ‘Yours Forever’ and  ‘Cherrie’(Produced by D-King). The latter having an Afro-beat rhythm with a mixture of different languages like Kiswahili, Lingala, Luganda and English featured.

Vampino and Party Pipo In A Thrilling ‘Smart Wire’ Dance

Sat, 01/28/2017 - 19:47

Every time Dancehall artiste Vampino steps on stage to perform, revellers are always heard asking him to perform his new song ‘Smart Wire’, a controversial tune that not only became a hit, but also a club banger that gets people especially women crazy. Many have wondered what ‘Smart Wire’ is all about but the answers have been scanty.

That aside, as Team No Sleep’s Sheebah Karungi premiered her new ‘The Way’ video at the Centenary Park-based Laftaz Comedy Lounge, Vampino was one of the artistes who curtain-raised for Sheebah before she premiered the video. To the fans’ surprise, as he performed alongside Party Pipo dance crew, he picked on one of the female revellers from the crowd who acted as the specimen for their Smart Wire dance. The answer to the question seems to be in the style of dance exhibited by these young entertainers.

While bending over, the three dancers one after the other energetically danced as they rubbed their bodies against the girl’s behind to Vampino’s ‘smart wire’ song and the whole action was a thriller as revellers all stood up, fidgeting to have a glimpse at what was going on stage with those nearer recording videos.

“We still want to bend you over please come back” were the word s Vampino told the girl who later got tired and wanted to leave but Vampino kept pulling her back on stage until he also tried that same dance with the girl a thing that threw the crowd into frenzy. May be we have finally got the meaning of ‘smart wire’ in this erotic dance.

<p>While the whole entertainment &

Fri, 01/27/2017 - 21:55

While the whole entertainment  industry is buzzing on Irene Ntale’s departure from Swangz Avenue, it has been brought to our attention that she is not the only one to have left the Muyenga-based record label.

What we learnt is that well as Irene Ntale is the person everyone is putting their emphasis on in the news, Big Nash, the producer behind many of Irene’ songs and other artistes also quit the studio but surprisingly, the story has never been out there in the media.

This is because he necessarily doesn’t make news headlines like the ‘Gyobela’ artiste but he quit about five months ago with reasons related to luck of respect.

Big Nash also left Swangz Avenue

We have learnt that the producer said he quit soon after Irene’s ‘Date night concert’ and it is said the final blow was when he was not announced among the people who contribute to Irene’s career yet everyone one else was.

This, added to things like less pay and little credit summed up his less than two years at Swangz.

We hear that Big Nash is now working at Deuces entertainment and producing for Atlas Da African.

He was behind songs like Love letter, Lillian’s Kuuma Obudde, ‘Kankunganye’ by Mun G and Goodlyf and ‘Ngalo among others.

David Lutalo Scores Big Ahead Of Concert

Thu, 01/26/2017 - 10:39

It takes patience, trust and belief to invest Ug Shs 80 million in a concert that hasn’t even happened yet but Africel with all factors put into consideration invested that amount of money in David Lutalo’s concert dubbed ‘Onsanuula’ that is happening this Friday at Hotel Africana.

In a press conference that was held at Hotel Africana yesterday afternoon, the artiste received a dummy check of the money from the telecom company representative and was so grateful in return. “Africell has put so much trust in me for the past two years but investing  Shs 80million in me is so much for me to handle. I would like to thank the company for the trust and I promise I won’t disappoint them.” Lutalo said.

Africell’s Brand and Communications Manager Emmanuel Kabugo (left) makes the Ug Shs 80m sponsorship package to local musician David Lutalo (in white) at hotel Africana.

The artiste had a good 2016, after registering perhaps one of the biggest crowd attendances at Africana in January which makes him enthusiastic that the Friday concert is also going to be successful.

“Having registered a successful concert (Manya) in January last year, I’m convinced that on Friday my fans will come in huge numbers because they know what I’m capable of. I now have enough experience when it comes to concerts and I promise to give them the best.” He said.

Entrance to David Lutalo’s is 20k and 50k VIP and among the artistes headlined to support the artistes include Ziza Bafana, Goodlyfe, Pallaso and Golden Production among others.

‘Buy Ice Cream Or Water, Am All Yours’ Says Malaika Nyaanzi

Tue, 01/24/2017 - 19:04

It seems her job was keeping her exiled from her personal life but ever since she left her job at Urban TV, Malayika Nyanzi has been so active on social media lately, posting on whatever topic she feels like.

But what caught our attention was one that she posted a few days ago which called on all her stalkers provided they can afford ice cream and cold water.

“Guys hitting on/ vibing me,I appreciate the nice messages and dinner dates and presents but
in this here our dry January a guy that buys me ice cream or cold water has a better chance than the one who bought me Diamonds,”
Malayika posted.

Malaika formerly worked at Urban TV as a presenter

We are not so sure whether she was joking or not but we believe her statement came because of the hot weather and besides that, it sure looks like January is shining in her pockets just like the rest of us.

The sweet lips ambassador however, cautioned everyone with such intentions that her message expires on 1st Feb this year.

Tue, 01/24/2017 - 17:04

Yesterday singer Irene Ntale left her former camp and record label Swangz Avenue but immediately after announcing her departure, a lot of confusing media reports have been ongoing regarding the clear reason why the artiste suddenly left.

Some media reports have come out to say that Irene’s former manager Veronica Luggya (Vero) who a few days ago declared that she has now joined the music industry has replaced Irene’s position. Vero refuted these rumours when Chano8 contacted her.

“Not that I replaced her, Swangz Avenue has various artistes. Yes I have started singing, I’ve recorded lots of music and I can’t wait to put it out there.” Veronica said.

As a person who managed Ntale for 3 good years, we asked for her say on Ntale’s sudden departure and this is what she had to say.

“I am sure her and the management came to a mutual understanding on whatever happened. I managed Irene for three years and I stopped managing her last year in September to focus on my music career. I have loved music, I loved music since my high school days and I participated in MDD and came out I was a dancer. I worked with various artists like Jackie Chandiru for a year, I was in some videos like Maurice Kirya’s ‘Work It Out’ and a lot more not until I was introduced to artist management by my boss.”

Leaving that aside, does Veronica (Vinka) have any songs or videos yet now that she is officially a newly signed artistes at the Muyenga based Swangz Avenue music label?

“I have recorded several songs that you will get soon and I hope to record with bigger artists like Yemi Alade and a lot more.” She confidently concluded.
